CatchFish Radio
Discover live radio by casting toward a place on Earth and reeling in a station.
The idea
Point toward a part of the world, pull back, cast, and reel in a live station from that direction. CatchFish draws from 31,557 stations at their real coordinates. If a station is not for you, cast again.
How it works
Each cast searches a narrow cone in the direction you face. Sound and vibration mark the moment a station bites; reeling brings its stream into focus. The aim is to make finding a station feel as engaging as listening to one.
Turning changes which stations can be caught. The map places them at their real locations, and every catch plays a live broadcast rather than a preview clip. A new direction opens up a different part of the catalogue.
What I learned
The prototype switched between live streams without overlapping audio. The wait before a station played often felt like buffering rather than suspense. Reeling in a station felt good, and the tester wanted to cast again to hear something different. That search for the next station proved more compelling than the wait itself.
Status
The casting prototype was tested, but the full game is deferred. The discovery loop remains the part worth exploring: choose a direction, catch a station, and try again.
